Past Continuous or Progressive

O past continuous, é o tempo verbal que basicamente, descreve uma ação que estava ocorrendo em certo período no passado.
Sujeito + passado simples (was ou were) + verbo no gerúndio (ing) + complemento

I was working
You were working
He was working
She was working
It was working
We were working
You were working
They were working

NEGATIVE/NEGATIVO
Sujeito + passado simples (was ou were) + not + verbo no gerúndio (ing) + complemento

O negativo do past Continuous é formado pelo acréscimo do not a frase.
Exemplo: I (was not ou wasn't) drinking coffee last night.

I was not working
You were not working
He was not working
She was not working
It was not working
We were not working
You were not working
They were not working

INTERROGATIVE/INTERROGATIVO
Passado simples do verbo to be + sujeito + verbo no gerúndio (ing) + complemento

Was I working?
Were you working?
Was he working?
Was she working?
Was it working?
Were we working?
Were you working?
Were they working?

Descrever algo que aconteceu antes e depois de um tempo específico:
It was seven o'clock. I was waiting an email.

Descrever uma ação em andamento num determinado momento no passado:
It was raining this morning.
We were playing soccer when he got hurt. 

Descrever algo que estava acontecendo repetidamente (again and again):
They were meeting secretly after school.

Descrever algo quando tem duas ações (ou mais) estão em progresso ao mesmo tempo: É comum usar ‘’while’’:

Stella was talking while the teacher was explaning the task.
